Airports are strange places; so many people going off on adventures they’ve been dreaming of for weeks or even a lifetime.
I love to watch people in an airport. There’s such a diverse group of travelers; from the business executives going to visit their next account, to the families going to Disney, and people who simply want to get away. If you spend much time waiting, you can clearly see that many people’s minds are still turning over their same habits and routines. They may be worrying, regretting taking time away, or wondering what they forgot to pack.
Here’s the thing, just like so many things in life, the high exists in the mind. That’s why we never get there. Feeling anxious about traveling is just allowing you to take one more hit of your chosen addiction…which in this case is clinging to your everyday perspective. Just remember, the high isn’t a reality. The high is an idea. Reality seems ordinary, boring, until you go on the biggest adventure of a lifetime: the present moment.
That’s why perspective is so important. Shake yourself out of your boring old routine and let yourself be a child, wide-eyed and wonderstruck. Once you change your perspective, you will then realize where the magic has been all along. No need to get on an airplane for that! But it’s pretty fun to be going on the journey anyway.
I am going on my own airport journey this week, flying to Kansas City to speak at the Becoming The Best You Conference. Should I be nervous about taking the stage after a legend like Patch Adams? Maybe. But I’ve already shifted my perspective from worry to positivity and excitement. I know the conference is going to be amazing!
