Giving is an Art

How do you give a gift from the heart?

The Bible tells us this:

Matthew 6:21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

So where is your treasure? Do you give? Are you a giver? Giving is also a gift. Sometimes it's hard to give. Physical gifts are easy to give and you can even send someone to the store to pick them up for you. They can be personal or impersonal. They can be exactly what the receiver wanted or they may not be. We tend to think of giving as an actual present. Like what we give for birthdays and Christmas. Even at weddings and graduations. Deuteronomy 15:10 tells us this: You shall give to him freely, and your heart shall not be grudging when you give to him, because for this the Lord your God will bless you ...

There is no greater gift than love. Love can be shown and given in many forms. Time, emotions, words, actions, and what you say can even be given in love. Love can also be seen in the form of sharing. Proverbs 22:9 says Whoever has a bountiful eye will be blessed, for he shares his bread with the poor. When you give even when you think you don’t have it to give, you will be even more richly blessed.

So how do you give? Do you give freely from the heart with no strings attached expecting nothing in return? A gift should be just that. Whether it’s physical or not. It should be given expecting nothing in return. After all, if there are strings attached and a return is expected, it isn’t a gift at all. Your time and kind words and your love are enough. It will be cherished far above things.

Giving is an art, it takes on its own form. It is to be enjoyed and embraced. It is something that should be freely given. Given with joy and peace. When it is done this way, you too are blessed by it. When it is done this way, you too are given a gift.
