Meditation Tip: Plant a Garden

Updated: Mar 27, 2022

There are many way to relieve stress and we all have different activities that help us relax. One of the things I’ve found to be a great stress reliever is to go out in my garden. I have a small my greenhouse and I love planting plants and vegetables and watching them grow. The simple act of weeding and taking care of the plants helps quiet my mind and relieve the stress of the day.

In my life, I find that my garden is like my mind. If I allow the weeds to grow in my garden, chances are good that some negative thoughts are taking purchase in my mind. The weeds will begin to overtake the vegetable garden and, before long, it becomes harder to distinguish the weeds from the plants. It’s the same way with your mind. Take care of yourself, be gentle, and weed out the negative thoughts often.

Tip to take away:

If you’re gardening or if you want to garden, it doesn’t have to a huge production, just enjoy taking care of the plants by watering and nurturing them and enjoy the fruit of that labor. There’s nothing like taking a fresh tomato off the vine and eating it, so get a plant and watch it grow. If you don’t have any plants, or if you don’t have much of a yard, you might want to go and take a nature walk. While you’re outside, enjoying the sights and sounds, let go of your worries and simply enjoy the experience. The simple act of reading a book under a tree or wading in the river can do wonders for your mind and body.
